World’s first rugged, metal-reinforced IP68 smartphone

When developing Getnord Onyx, we did not pursue the current trends and did not decorate it with nice- looking “aluminum” parts or painted plastic. Our engineering solutions constituted our use of aluminum and silicone alloy. Instead of something stylish or pretty, we wanted to design a tough, rugged phone, able to withstand the harshest MIL-STD-810G and IP68 tests. In order to do so, we decided to use strong, lightweight metal and advanced phone engineering and technology.

Getnord Onyx is the first rugged waterproof smartphone with an aluminium alloy core. We mount all the most crucial phone features on this core: PCBA, LCD display, camera, antennas and other important parts.

The two L shape side parts are designed for the flexural strength of the phone. The flexibility of a phone (if you sit on it, for instance) is the most common cause for a broken LCD or touchscreen. Other manufacturers ignore this problem or solve it by adding more product mass. We don‘t ignore it or bulk up our product; we solve it using our engineering know-how.

A carabiner clip is a genius solution if you are working or traveling. It gives you uber-quick access to your phone by letting you latch it onto a belt loop, camera bag, strap, purse, or whatever is convenient. But how many strong, reliable plastic phone loops have you seen that are safe to attach? With Getnord Onyx, you don’t have to worry. You can’t break the 7 mm aluminum loop – instead, the aluminum loop can and will break something (glass, in case of an emergency, for example…or, if there’s no emergency, you can use it as a nutcracker).

Getnord Onyx is the thinnest rugged IP68 phone with the strongest battery. We know the importance of long hours for professionally used phones. To select a big battery from a catalog and design our phone around it would be simple; but it’s not our style. Getnord Onyx battery We did not want to sacrifice phone mass and thickness, so instead, we‘ve developed a specially shaped battery which perfecly fits inside the thin Getnord Onyx housing. The 4000mAh battery is two times longer lasting than any other available to similar phones. We’re talking small tablet capacity. 4000mAh allows you to skip charging every single day. Standby time is numbered not in hours or days, but weeks.

Scratchproof screens have yet to be invented – but we have a solution

Many phone manufacturers praise their “Gorillas” to the stars for their tough exteriors, but have you ever seen the screen of a phone that’s more than a day old without a single scratch? A design for scratchproof screens has yet to be invented but, knowing the daily toil our phones must survive, we had to find a solution. And we did. Yes, Corning is our supplier and can use bold letters “Gorilla 3” ir Getnord Onyx specs too, but we don’t think it’s enough. We secure an additional tempered glass protector overtop Gorilla 3. The specially Japan-made Asahi glass screen protectors used on our Getnord Onyx phones possess 9H hardness, according to the Mohs scale (for reference, the highest level is H10 – the hardness of a diamond). Moreover, the protector is crystal clear, practically invisible, and does not interfere in the slightest with touchscreen sensitivity.

If you somehow manage to scratch Asahi glass (which is next to impossible, so congratulations are in order if you do), you can change the protector by simply removing it and applying a new one. Inside the original Getnord Screen Protector Kit, you will find all the necessary tools and instructions to switch out your Asahi tempered glass. Before you know it, your screen will be like new again.
